First a few words about astrologers, to astrologers and their clients:

Astrology is not an exact science, although there are those who try to force it into such narrow parameters.  Is it a science?  Is it an Art?  Why must we NAME it at all?  Astrology uses scientific technique to chart the course of the planets and plot them on a chart--but most of us now rely on computers to draw the chart--after all, computers are good at such things as mathematical calculations.  At the same time, an astrological reading is based on an astrologer's intuitive ability to interpret the chart.  This is an art in itself.  For every two aspects in your chart, you will receive a different interpretation from different astrologers.  An astrologer's ability to pull the pieces of the chart together and their ability to understand and recognize the soul's current level of evolution is extremely important.  A computer can not do this, although more and more 'astrologers' are relying on such computerized interpretation.  To me, this is stripping a wonderful, beautiful, spiritual experience of its very meaning.  Why is it so difficult for an astrologer to present a client with an integrated report....why exactly do so many astrologers feel that they must justify every little thing they say to their clients with an aspect or house placement?  This need for justification can be directly traced back to the belief that astrology is a SCIENCE.  The people who are hurt the most by this belief are the very same people astrologers are trying to help.  A client comes to an astrologer because there is something they do not understand, or there is something they'd like to know more about in their life.  Do they REALLY want a list of aspects with a tiny fraction of information on their aspect.   Do they want to know about their Venus conjunct the Sun, or do they want to know how this is playing out in their life?  A client usually does not approach an astrologer looking to learn astrology!  Yet, so many of us astrologers will hand out a reading like this: Now, see an example of what I am talking about

Moon conjunct Sun

Blah blah blah

Venus square Saturn

Blah blah blah

Get my point?  Sometimes it may appear like this:

Sun in Leo, Libra Rising, Moon in Virgo

Blah blah blah blah blah blah

I am not trying to say that there is no valuable information in these types of readings, because yes, there is.  But dividing the chart up like this not only confuses the client, but it also presents a choppy picture and it certainly affects accuracy.  So what if their Venus is square Saturn--maybe their Saturn is opposite their Neptune...and of course the list could go on.  But what is true for a Venus square Saturn standing ALONE could be completely inaccurate for the individual.

Please understand that this is, indeed, my personal opinion.  If anyone is offended by my honesty, I am sorry.  I do not wish to have a pile of complaints from 'astrologers' who offer computerized readings on the web.  As I have said, there is some useful information in the computerized readings...but they are also so limited.  I would love to see those huge sites (you know who you are) that have a huge cash flow actually admit to their customers that they are, indeed, receiving second class information and that there are limits to a computerized reading.  But why would they do that?  Then they might lose a bit of business.  After all, it is about the money, is it not?  I am very sad to say that this is the truth of the matter.  Although we all need to make a living and survive, it seems rather
wrong
to withhold information such as this.

Now that I've had my say, I would like to offer my views on a variety of astrological myths...this is for astrology students, in particular.  My opinion is based on personal experience and astrological experience directly in the field...that is, my personal experience has been backed and supported by my practice and my clients.

Myth #1

This, I must admit, is a bone of contention for me.  I literally cringe when I read this in astrology books.  Do you lack an element in your chart?  If so, perhaps you've heard or read about the first myth on my list.

A person lacking any element will lack qualities of that element in their personality.  Say you lack water...well, you must be very hard up emotionally.  You lack compassion and intuition because you do not have any planets in water.

So you only have one planet in Fire.  Well, you sure are a sluggish starter with a distinct lack of drive.  You better go find an Aries Sun, Leo Moon, Sagittarius Rising partner to help you make up for your lack.

PLEASE!  It simply, simply, simply does not work this way.  I am void of fire...totally bereft.  I do have an Aries descendant, but that doesn't really count, now does it?  And what about those 3 houses (empty they might be) in my natal chart that are ruled by Leo, Sagittarius, and Aries?  In addition, one of my best friends is also Fire-free.  I will say here that I am a self-starter...I am very determined, driven, and ambitious (so is my friend).  But how can that be?  I do not have any fire...and to make matters worse, I  have Mars in Virgo!

This is the secret...many of us who lack an element are already so stuffed full of this element from past lives we simply no longer need to have that emphasis in our charts.  In my last life, I was burnt alive.  My life prior to that I was a Leo Sun.  So I have no need to have planets in the fire signs...I have enough determination to pass around and share.  Doesn't it make more sense that a person lacking an element is lacking it for a reason?  They obviously have no need for a dramatic dose of that energy in the current incarnation...whether it is because they have more than enough readily available within their soul from before, or whether it is due to a greater need to develop another energy in the current life.  Perhaps they were too watery, airy, earthy or fiery in the last life and now they need to tone it down some.  Regardless of the reason...this myth permeates many astrological cookbooks and readers intended for the beginning astrology student.   In a few years these very same students may be out there telling someone like me that they lack drive and ambition and that they need to work on breaking out of their laziness.  Scary thought, actually.  I hope you have not been a victim of this astrological myth already.

Myth #2

Our South Node is our last life, our past.  Yes, the South Node is indeed our Past, but it is not our 'last' life.  It is simply the conglomerate result of various incarnations.  If you are a Leo South Node, it does not mean you were a Leo in your last life.  It does not mean you were EVER a Leo Sun sign.  It does mean that throughout your incarnations, you have developed a great deal of Leo energy, more Leo energy than any other sign, at the expense of the qualities of the Aquarian (Aquarius will be your North Node if your South Node is in Leo).  Alternatively, your soul may have decided it is time to be more Aquarian, so you chose the Aquarius North Node.  However, this is rare indeed that the soul is allowed to choose the North Node.  We do choose a great amount of our chart--but our nodes are one of those things only very evolved souls would have the opportunity to choose.  And even then, they wouldn't be able to pick any sign...it would have to be one of the energies still needed to be developed.  Say you need some more Aquarius, but you also need some Sagittarius...but you really don't need much of either, just a bit.  So depending on how soon the soul wants to return, and how the rest of the chart configuration would fit the plans, this soul could come back whenever the North Node is in Sagittarius or Aquarius.  For example, this particular soul is ready to incarnate....the sooner the better!  The Aquarius North Node will be available sooner than the Sagittarius...so this soul may incarnate with Sagittarius Sun, conjunct a Sagittarius Rising...with Aquarius North Node.  In this manner, the soul is working on both aspects needed.  Confused yet?

Myth #3

Any planet conjunct the South Node will act as a catalyst to pull the person back into the old patterns that are no longer needed.  There is some truth in this...but it is not the entire truth!  It will work negatively for some people, but for others a planet conjunct the South Node is a GIFT.  The soul has developed such wonderful, heart-warming and helpful qualities in the past, they are allowed to again experience this blessing--as long as they use it for the good of others.  Take a look at the charts of geniuses and you may very well see that South Node/planet conjunction.  A young musician?  A young and talented artist?  Could be Neptune or Venus.  In some circumstances, a planet conjunct the south node helps push the soul forward, toward the North Node.  After all, we do not want to move away from our south node...we want to incorporate the useful energies of our soul's growth pattern into our future.  None of us can stride towards our North Node without utilizing, loving, and embracing the attributes of our past.  Use the positive aspects of your South node to propel yourself forward...having a planet there, even Saturn, can be a blessing in disguise.  It means you are able to tap into the sources of your past easier than others may be...with the resulting ability to find and use the strengths of your past to run on ahead.  If you have a South Node/planet conjunction...be proud!  Don't let any negative interpretation make you feel helpless and doomed to repeat the past, because you have a great opportunity sitting in your lap...use it!

That's it for now!  There are many more myths, and I will share my view on them as time allows me to work on this page.

Love and Blessings,  Venuskitty
